• Being a woman
• Getting older
• Genetic factors (BRCA1 or BRCA2)
• Family history
• Having dense breasts on mammogram
• Starting menopause after age 55
• Having no children
• High bone density
• Drinking more than one alcoholic drink per day
• Lack of exercise
• Postmenopausal hormone use (HRT)
• First period before age 12
• Having first child after age 35
• Abnormal breast biopsy
• Being overweight or gaining weight as an adult
